It’s certainly true that bingo is a game of chance because you are unable to choose the card you receive and also because you can’t predict what number will be drawn next. However, laws of probability do actually suggest certain patterns are more likely to occur than others. One other important factor surrounding online bingo can help you get the winning edge. This is where you can improve your odds, but the trick is to know the odds and know the probability.
Probability certainly does dictate that there is absolutely no skill in bingo because there is nothing you can do to determine the final outcome of the game. If you are playing offline, some bingo halls may give you the opportunity to select a ticket and even though the odds of pulling one number out of x possible numbers will always be 1 in x, there are a couple of patterns outlined further below that mean you can tilt the odds slightly in your favor.
Getting rid of the worst cards.
Here is the key to giving yourself a statistical chance of winning at online bingo, and there’s only a bit of mathematics involved. In fact, you can ignore all of the math and jump straight to the conclusion at the end.
In a 7 ball game of bingo there are 7 balls numbered sequentially from 1 to 75. There are a number of factors that we can assume thanks to probability. Firstly, if an even number of balls are selected at random then according to the laws of probability you will draw the same amount of odd numbers as even numbers, there will be an equal amount of high numbers and low numbers and there will be the same amount of numbers ending in a 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 and 9. This last factor isn’t strictly true, though, because there are more balls ending in the numbers 1 to 5.
The last number.
This last fact is one that fewer people will think of when they think of odds and bingo. On the first ball drawn there are 8 balls from 7 that end in a 1 and this means there is an 8 in 7 chance of drawing a ball that ends in a 1. Let’s say then that you get an 11 on the first ball. This means that the odds of picking a number ending in 1 on the next ball has just decreased because there are now only 7 balls from a possible 74.
So, the general rule of thumb when considering this fact is that is to get a card that has a very similar amount of numbers ending in each digit.
Odds and evens, high and low.
As more and more numbers are drawn there is a greater chance that the numbers will live up to the laws of probability. So, there is a greater chance that after 20 numbers are drawn there will be 5 even and 5 odd numbers. This is because as more and more of either odd or even are drawn, the chances become less and less that another will be drawn. The same goes for high and low numbers. By a high number we mean anything above 37 and a low number is anything below 38.
So, according to the laws of probability the actual important squares on your card (for a diagonal that would be 8 numbers on a 5 x 5 card. Don’t forget the middle square is left blank) should consist of the same number of odds as evens, the same amount of high numbers as low numbers and each of the numbers should have a different digit at the end. Keep picking your cards until you get a card like this and you have just tipped the balance of probability in your favor in a game that most people say is completely random.
